Dan Helmer

Virginia House of Delegates District 40

2019 Race Update: Dan won 52.34% to 47.55%

Democrat Dan Helmer is an Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran, small business leader, Rhodes Scholar, husband, and father. His wife, Karen, is a public school teacher, and their two sons, Harris and Aaron, attend Fairfax County Public Schools.

Dan has always sought to serve a country that welcomed his father as an immigrant and his grandparents, Holocaust survivors, as refugees. He attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and subsequently did tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, South Korea, and numerous domestic postings. He remains a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Today, Dan helps lead a fast-growing small business with two other post-9/11 veterans. Their business helps non-profits, the government, and private sector companies solve difficult problems.

Dan and Karen settled in Northern Virginia so that they could raise their children in a diverse community steeped in public service. They know that, in the face of a White House that has embraced hateful rhetoric and policies, their community deserves representation in Richmond that will stand up for our values, not the values of Donald Trump.
