Akilah Bacy is a native Houstonian who grew up with her mother, sister, and her twin brother in northwest Houston. She is a graduate of the Cypress-Creek High School and earned her BA from Spelman College. She returned to Texas to pursue her JD at Texas Tech University School of Law. After law school, she became an Assistant DA with the Harris County DA’s office. She then decided to start her own firm because she determined that she could better serve her community by defending primarily indigent people of Texas, and advocating for those who find themselves victims of employment discrimination. Outside of work, she also supports her community through a host of volunteer endeavors, including serving as a pro bono immigration attorney for children seeking asylum in the United States, mentoring at her local school district, teaching literacy, ESL, and legal rights classes in the West Houston community, and teaching Sunday school.
