Virginia House of Delegates District 85
Alex Askew was born and raised in Virginia Beach by his mother, a public school teacher. She taught him that a quality education has the power to change anyone’s life. He came up through the Virginia Beach public education system, graduating from Tallwood High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Hampton University. After graduation, he worked on various local, state-wide, and national campaigns and projects and managed diverse teams that empowered voters to use their voice to make positive change.
In his first term as the Delegate for the 85th District, Alex proudly stood strong on some of the most important issues of our time: making high-quality, affordable healthcare accessible for more Virginians, ensuring a safe return to schools for students and educators alike, and supporting a strong local economy. Alex’s office had 14 bills signed into law — 11 of which received overwhelming bipartisan support. During this most recent special session, he worked around-the-clock with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address the public health and economic issues we’re facing as a result of COVID-19.
Friends and family of Alex know that this is just the beginning. He’s a powerful and visionary advocate for working families, racial justice, government accountability, and economic empowerment. Many of his supporters know that re-electing him to the House of Delegates will be the continuation of a long and important career in public service – one that helps to transform Virginia for generations to come.
