2020 Race Update: Erik lost 45.34% to 54.66%

Erik Brooks has lived in the Milwaukee area for nearly all of his life, growing up on the South Side of Milwaukee before moving to St. Francis and then Franklin. After graduating from Marquette and living for several years in Ames, Iowa, Erik and his wife Sarah returned to the area to start a family. They chose the South Shore and proudly still do today. After graduating from Marquette University with a degree in journalism and political science in 1997, Erik spent 10 years as a print journalism reporter and editor. He joined Miller Brewing Company in April of 2007 and served as a communications professional there until late 2019. He is now an independent communications consultant after opening Brooks Communications LLC in early 2020. Erik has spent more than a decade building bridges in South Milwaukee city government, including serving as mayor for more than six years. He was first elected to the South Milwaukee City Council in 2009, then as mayor in 2014, beating the incumbent with more than 60% of the vote. He was re-elected in 2014 with more than 80% support, and ran unopposed for a third term in 2020.
