Joan Sweeny is a US Army Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) from Lakewood, Ohio. Joanie is a career public servant, serving as a Police Officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department for four years and a logistics officer in the United States Army for 25 years. Her many assignments include the 10^th Mountain Infantry Division, Defense Supply Center – Columbus and Army Recruiting Command. She has been stationed across the globe, including deployments in Desert Shield/Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

She currently works at Cuyahoga Community College Veterans Services office on the metro campus advocating for and assisting military Veteran students. She has received degrees from both the University of Dayton and the Ohio State University. Joanie volunteers with the Cleveland Metroparks, We Run this City, and Guitars for Vets; and she is married to Mark Dent.
