Lissa Geiger Shulman

Pennsylvania State House District 30

2020 Race Update: Lissa lost 45.20% to 54.80%

Growing up, Lissa Geiger Shulman learned the power of hard work by watching her parents. Her dad worked long hours fighting for fair housing and neighborhood development. When childcare became too expensive for their growing family, her mom left her job to concentrate on raising Lissa and her three siblings – all while managing the household.

Lissa attended Pitt on a scholarship, where she quickly fell in love with both Pittsburgh and her now husband, a native of Hampton Township, where they now live. After graduation, she was accepted into a teaching leadership program that places individuals in low income schools.

She then took her classroom experience to serve as chief of staff to a state representative working on education policy, especially in relation to children and youth with disabilities.

She learned how the legislative process really works and the importance of reaching across the aisle in order to make change happen. Building upon this spirit, she transitioned to a nonprofit advocacy role where she is able to work effectively with legislators in both parties to advance early childhood education.
