Rhonda Martin

Iowa State Senate District 20
2020 Race Update: Rhonda lost 47.31% to 49.51%
Rhonda Martin is a candidate for the Iowa State Senate. She was born and raised on a farm in Northwest Iowa and has lived and volunteered in Johnston, Iowa – near Des Moines – with her husband and kids for 21-plus years.
Rhonda is a State of Iowa registered Landscape Architect, a project manager for Iowa State University, a mom, and has always been a reliable and informed voter. Rhonda became an activist after her disillusionment in the November 2016 election results led her to the 2017 Women’s March in Washington, DC. There she was inspired to focus her energy on making positive change in Iowa’s political future. In November 2017, Rhonda ran for and was elected to the city council.
Now Rhonda is challenging a Republican incumbent in the Iowa Senate who has spent his career advancing controversial, unnecessary, and harmful legislation. As a Senator, Rhonda will refocus legislative action on what makes Iowa a great place to live and raise a family. Her three priorities are: regaining Iowa’s leadership in public education; protecting Iowa’s waterways and air quality; and ensuring that all Iowans have access to health care. These issues unite all Iowans and will renew Iowa’s prosperity.
