Shaun Murphy-Lopez

Wisconsin State House District 49
2020 Race Update: Shaun lost 40.78% to 59.22%
Shaun Murphy-Lopez is a Richland County Board Supervisor and a transportation planner. He grew up in a rural area – his dad is a livestock farmer and his mom a retired factory worker. For eight years he worked for the Minneapolis transportation department, leading that city’s efforts to become the most bicycle friendly in the nation.
Six years ago, he and his husband moved to Richland County, WI to return to Shaun’s rural roots. They have run a small-scale organic pig farm and renovated a 100-year old commercial building into the Yuba State Bank Apartments. Shaun was elected to his seat on the County Board in 2018 and serves as chair of the Finance Committee.
Shaun is a socially progressive, fiscally moderate candidate who listens to rural residents to understand issues important to them. Using this input, the campaign is focused on revitalizing small farms, small towns, small schools, and reducing the influence of big money in politics.
